Support for Bun

The idea is to add support for https://bun.sh/
it's still relatively new but seems to be on 🔥 already

We can start with error monitoring support - we plan to experiment with it, see where it fails, and slowly come to a solution that works.

I tested with @sentry/node - as long as you're not using any v8 APIs (node profiling, local variables) both error and performance monitoring seems to work!

The node related tags are based on the fact that the Node SDK attempts to grab process.version(which Bun defaults to v18.15.0) and sets the runtime tag automatically.

So it seems that there might be some issues that some errors are not reported to Sentry.

Yeah unhandled errors or promise rejections that bubble up unfortunately won't be caught by Sentry automatically until support for those global error event emitters are added.

For now you have to manually try catch things and capture errors that way - but everything else with Sentry (setting tags, measuring performance, getting a full stacktrace) should work from what I've tested.

With https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-javascript/releases/tag/7.70.0 we've shipped a beta version of @sentry/bun, our official Sentry SDK for the Bun JavaScript runtime.

bun add @sentry/bun

This is still in beta, but we plan to keep adding features to it! Please note some of the unhandled exception error monitoring is blocked by oven-sh/bun#5091, but the Bun team seems to be actively working on it!

Seems that it won't work with the profiling integration. undefined symbol: uv_default_loop on installing it. Any plans to get profiling to work?

@zackify profiling is built as a native add-on for Node because it hooks into v8 directly, so it can't be made to work for Bun or Deno in it's current form.

No plans at the moment to expand to Bun support, we might re-visit after oven-sh/bun#5091 gets addressed.

@sinasalek profiling-node requires access to v8 APIS - bun does not use v8 so I don't think our existing implementation will ever be supported in bun. It'll need a completely different solution.
