Preventing errors when running ‘npm start’

When we start creating a new project in AssemblyScript. If we run ‘npm init’ and set ‘type’ to ‘commonjs’. In the next steps, when we want to run the tests, we will get the following error:

The solution is to set ‘type’ to ‘module’ to continue with ES Modules in our package.json.

So that the user can set the module type during the configuration of their package.json

I don't think it would be reasonable to change an option that the user manually specified (if type isn't specified, as npm does, it's set to module by default). Would emitting a warning and changing the tests/index.js file extension to .mjs make more sense to you?

Actually, on second thought, if we went with that idea, the ESM bindings would also have to be generated with the .mjs extension (Node.js emits a warning when foo.mjs loads bar.js when type isn't module). Let's instead just bail out with an error.
