The crash you are facing is a markdown issue, that I will investigate in the coming days.

Now about numbered lists, this:

1. Foo
1. Bar
1. Baz

is equivalent to

1. Foo
2. Bar
3. Baz

The lexer doesn't care about what number you type in, just as long as it's a number

Tested after #848 merged as it was an issue with long conversation, but not sure which PR fixed it. The latest markdown related is #819.
